Run the Experiments (12) - Tea Time!
(July 3rd, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
“You did WHAT???” Fernando almost jumped out of his seat. “You worked for half a year at night... on a secret project? Then you took all your data and ran away?”
“Yes. Sounds unbelievable, I know, but I had no other choice. My boss is a real asshole; he would never have let me publish my data in my name.”
“But, it's a criminal offence. You know that, right? Legally, your data belongs to your boss. He paid you; he let you use his equipment.”
Charlotte took another sip from her welcome cup of tea. “Yes, I know,” she sighed. “It felt wrong but I had to do it. I was desperate.”
“Hmm, alright,” Fernando wasn't really sure what to think about Charlotte's situation. “Let me see your data.”
Hesitantly, Charlotte plugged the data stick into the USB connection of Fernando's computer. Could she trust him? They had met barely an hour ago. But if she wanted to continue her project, she needed support. Besides, in a foreign country full of strangers, it would not be the worst of ideas to have an ally – especially one with a well-equipped, molecular biology lab.
“Beep.” Installation complete – tables, plots and images began to appear on Fernando's screen.
“That's amazing. You did all that after your routine work? You must be crazy. Do you want to continue here? I can give you some bench space and you can use our machines and chemicals but I can't pay you.”
“I'm crazy enough to accept that offer!” Charlotte smiled.
