Run the Experiments (15) - The Visit
(September 4th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
Vamos a la playa, ohoho... The stereo had been playing this song all day. Yes, lab parties have always been a good way to socialise with colleagues and even talk about one or the other project. Marcus had arrived an hour earlier, slipping away from a rather boring conference, as he had bemoaned. Together, they had given him a grand tour of Fernando's lab, showing him their latest results from the cancer project he had been working on with Charlotte. Marcus was most impressed and had had many questions for Charlotte. Now, they were moving on to the casual part of the afternoon.
“Come over here and have some cake,” Fernando said, “My mum made it this morning.”
“How's Prof Bernard?” Charlotte couldn't contain her curiosity any longer.
“He seems to have calmed down a bit; he hasn't mentioned your name for weeks. His 'lab slaves' are now working on a different project but I don't know much about it,” Marcus reported.
“Sounds good. I feared he might still be after me and my data. Just a few weeks ago, I had an encounter with a strange chap... but let's not talk about it. Let's just enjoy this party.”
“Yes, let's do that and forget about the past,” Marcus smiled, reassuringly.
Marcus and Charlotte joined the rest of the party people, enjoying good music, food and interesting conversation. The resulting chatter was louder than an ultracentrifuge on high speed and continued late into the evening.
“Hey, where's Marcus? Has anyone seen him?” Charlotte asked around, slightly tipsy.
“Oh, yes, I saw him go to your office a few minutes ago,” someone replied.
My office? What does he want there? Charlotte wondered, slightly irritated.
To be continued...
