Run the Experiments (16) - Caught in the Act
(September 11th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
On her way to the office, Charlotte tried to expunge all suspicious thoughts from her mind. She was sure Marcus was just looking for a quiet place to relax. Perhaps he didn't feel well? The sun, the wine – even Charlotte was feeling a little giddy. She could get him some water. Yes, that was a good idea. Taking a glass from the kitchen and filling it up with refreshing cold water, she headed off to her office. Maybe he was already dehydrated?
With a dynamic push, she flung the office door open and promptly dropped the glass. Water cascaded over the floor and she didn’t register the glass smashing as it hit the ground. Marcus, far from being sick and tired, was busy rifling through her belongings. Her bag was wide open, several items had fallen out onto the floor. Her desk was all messed up.
Shocked by her sudden and unexpected appearance, Marcus froze on the spot, turning pale-faced. Now, he did look very sick, indeed.
“Marcus, what the....!?!”
His mouth was open but he just stared at her dumbfounded.
“What are you doing? Explain yourself!” she cried, aghast.
Some quiet incomprehensible syllables came out of his mouth.
“I cannot believe you're doing this. After all we've been through together,” Charlotte’s astonishment was turning to anger.
“I, I, I know,” Marcus finally stammered – ridden with guilt. “I...I had no other choice.”
“Oh please! What is that supposed to mean?”
In his right hand, Charlotte noticed something shiny glint in the light as he was trying, unsuccessfully, to hide it behind his back.
