Run the Experiments (8) - Viva Espana!
(June 6th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
“Charlotte, honey. Where are you? I’ve tried to call you a million times.”
“I'm in Madrid, enjoying tortilla and an excellent Rioja. Listen, mum. I had to leave Germany, my lab. Things weren't going so well and ...” Charlotte paused, thinking about how to continue. “I just needed a break,” she finally said.
“Oh, ok. Yes, you absolutely need some time out. You’ve worked so hard over the last few months. We’ve hardly spoken. You could've just let us know a bit earlier, love. Now, relax and clear your mind.”
“Yes, mum. I will,” Charlotte smiled and ended the phone call. She pensively spins the USB stick in her hands - her mum's present. Saved on it was all of her data, her future, her life.
“¿Desea algo más?” the waiter jerked her out of her thoughts.
“No gracias,” Charlotte replied, before she dialled Marcus' number on her phone.
“What?? Madrid?? Crazy!!” he gasped in slight bewilderment. “Heard, they have some good food there.”
“Oh, yes, the food is delicious. How are things at the lab?”
“Oh, man! Prof Bernard totally flipped out. Anna said that he even threw some beakers and Erlenmeyers about the place. He yelled at everyone in the lab, mumbling something about missing data. But of course nobody knew anything, which made him even more furious.”
“Jeez, that's horrible! Was somebody hurt?”
“Not physically. What are your plans now? Getting a tan?”
“I don't really know,” Charlotte confessed.
“Hey, I know a guy at Complutense University. He's pretty cool; he likes football as much as research. You’d love him. His name is Fernando. Maybe, he can help you.”
“Sounds good, I'll contact him.”
“Alright and I'll keep you posted about Bernard. By the way, yesterday, I heard him say something about police.”
To be continued...
