Run the Experiments (10) - An Unusual Meeting
(June 19th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times serialised crime story.
“¿Qué pasa?” a soft voice calmly spoke to her. Charlotte, who was still crouched down in the middle of the University campus, felt a gentle, comforting hand on her back.
“My... my phone...,” Charlotte could hardly utter a word.
“You lost it?”
“Yes, in the metro... there was this guy with a yellow baseball cap, who bumped into me...”
“You think he stole it?”
“Maybe..., I don't know... perhaps…”
Only now, did Charlotte take notice of the attentive, rather handsome, young man, who was stooped over her. Brown hair, dark eyes and a boyish smile.
“Hi, I'm Charlotte,” she said shyly.
“And I'm Fernando,” he answered. “This meeting hasn’t started quite as planned?”
“No, not really,” she replied, quietly relieved, as she attempted a weak smile.
Fernando helped her up and took her backpack.
“Let's go to my lab, we have a good coffee machine there. Then you can tell me everything from the start.”
“Yes, I will but I think I'd prefer a calming cup of tea,” Charlotte said, recovering her sense of humour.
“We have that, too.”
No, this meeting really hadn’t started off as planned. And what's worse, Charlotte had lost her most valuable asset. Saved from the evil hands of Prof Bernard, her USB stick, with all her precious data, had been stolen using the oldest trick in the book. How could she have let that happen? Why hadn't she put it in a safer place than in her jacket pocket? Charlotte felt so stupid. It had all been in vain – or had it? She squinted into the sun…
“Oh my God, Fernando! There’s that guy from the metro.”
“Over there, the one with the yellow cap”.
“I'll get him!”
